c. Minor corrections or changes to a previously submitted image, or duplicate exposures of original images, which are essentially the same does not constitute a new image. However, in the case of composite images, an image prepared from the original photographic image and a different second image would be regarded as new.
ENTERING COMPETITIONS CONT’D..
d. Once submitted for any competition, an image’s title should not be altered before use in other competitions. Any such proposed alteration must be advised to, and agreed by, the Competition Secretaries before it can be used under that new title.
e. Images may be taken at any time and must be the member’s own work. It may be a composite derived by the combination of one or more photographic images. The author must have captured the whole photographic content of a composite image. Clipart or third-party images from any source are strictly forbidden.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENGE (AI)
Artificial Intelligence is a comparatively new and developing aspect of producing images. As all elements of any of our internal and external competition entries must be captured by the author on camera, AI images contravene that basic rule. We feel that AI generated images are not in the spirit of competition.
We trust members to not enter AI images and logistically we cannot ask for proof that every image is not your own. However, if necessary, we reserve the right to ask the member to provide original images, complete with metadata, if required by the club.
Please Note:
1. For all our competitions, a photographic image is defined “as being a captured image on a light-sensitive device/surface (e.g., photogram technique, film camera, digital camera, smartphone, tablet, etc….) and recorded on paper, film or in a digital format.”
2. An artificial intelligence (AI) generated image, or element, is not deemed to be a photographic image because it was created from scratch by the AI system and contains no image captured by the entrant. Therefore, this type of image will not be acceptable into our competitions
3. Use of AI features contained within a post processing application (e.g. masking, sharpening, de-noise, enlarging, etc…) are permitted in our competitions provided they comply with a competition’s editing criteria and do not contain any elements which were not captured by the entrant (e.g. textures, sky, etc…). Potential winning images may be required to have supporting images (sky, texture, etc…which must have been captured by the submitting photographer) submitted on request by the Competition Secretary.
INTER-SOCIETY COMPETITIONS
1. By submitting a photograph for entry into Society internal competitions, the Member agrees to allow the Society to use that image in external competitions unless specifically forbidden (for example, where that member also belongs to another club within the CACC, and their images will be used by that club). Images will only be accepted for external competitions for a maximum period of 2 years from the image’s first showing in a formal internal Club competition.
2. Entries to external competitions, not already held by the Society, shall be submitted to the External Competitions Secretary in accordance with the relevant competition’s entry requirements and entry deadlines (these will be advised in good time, ahead of the event).
3. The External Competitions Secretary shall be responsible for selecting entries for those external competitions or, in the case of the CACC Rose Bowl, in conjunction with two or more other society members nominated by the Committee.
4. The Member retains all copyright and commercial rights over the photograph beyond its use for promotional purposes for such competitions. Should an external competition require that entries to that competition be available for promotional or other use, the Member will be advised of this and asked for written permission for the Society to enter their image into that competition.
