Peter demonstrated his photographic flower journey by showing us his images of flowers starting from when he lived in the USA through to today showing the progression of understanding of the use of depth of field and composition. He did this with many anecdotes and humour.
He showed us many exotic flowers from his time in sub-tropical Florida, where Hibiscus, Poinciana, large Agapanthus, Palm trees, Crepe Myrtle and Live Oak all of which were different, and needed photographing. His visits exploring the local state parks – Bok Gardens being his favourite, also offered a vast variety of plants to photograph.
Peter’s enthusiasm for flower photography continued from there, and visits overseas including Singapore and the varied Gardens in the UK including his own house whose garden has matured following landscaping with a large variety of plants. He visits many of the RHS, National Trust and Oxford Botanic gardens. Wisley used to be one of his favourite locations but the M25 roadworks and traffic jams has put him off. He mentioned Kew Gardens with special displays and exhibitions.
Peter explained he prefers to shoot outdoors and uses natural light as much as he can. His enthusiasm for Dahlias, Irises, Orchids, Magnolias and common garden plants was obvious.
