Today the Snappers met at Orchard View Farm for their first Autumn/Winter session. The group looked at multiple-exposer art photography, combining table-top techniques with a combination of light sources to capture moving objects and movement trails. And, although much of this can be done in various affects and filters in the latest post-processing packages, it was the purpose of this meeting to do and capture as much in camera as possible.
The subject was a rather basic set-up. Dropping coloured sweets into a glass jar and using flash to capture and freeze the sweets in mid-air as they dropped into the jar, but also employing ‘continuous light’ to capture the movement trail of the sweet. We obviously want the trail to be behind the sweet, so in this case, the flash should fire at the end of the exposure – therefore in this exercise we set the camera/flash to Rear-Curtain Sync mode to achieve this.
