This week Snappers enjoyed a very sunny morning in Old Amersham town. For a change, the weather was kind to us and we were able to explore the town’s old buildings, especially the old coaching Inns. Amersham was the first stop-off for a good night’s rest and a change of horses if you were Coaching from London to Birmingham in the 1700’s. In 1630 the town and surrounding area was owned by the Drake family, relatives of Captain Sir Francis Drake, and much of the influence of this family can be found in St. Mary’s church to this day.
The notorious Ruth Ellis, the last women to be hanged in England, is buried in the church yard in an unmarked grave.

The morning concluded with a coffee in one of the local hostelries.
