A group of intrepid photographers arrived at the Brill Windmill on a sunny but cold and windy morning. We all realised very quickly why this spot was chosen to construct such a post mill – the wind was strong with a cold biting edge to it, but very soon the Snappers were doing their thing – taking photographs from various angles of this 17th Century Mill standing atop its very own sandstone mound. Although the sun continued to shine, the cold got to most of us eventually, to the extent that a few succumbed to the shelter of their cars to warm up before embarking on the second half of this event – a visit through the village to All Saints Church.
Here, out of the biting wind it was much calmer. A couple of glorious pink Magnolia trees in full bloom stand just inside the churchyard gate spanning the footpath into the Church itself. The 12th Century church is well-preserved with a mix of architectural styles, including Norman. On a back wall was a picture of the Windmill surrounded by villagers on its grassy mounds – members thought this might be a composite image but then realising it was probably a staged image by a local photographer.
